Monastic Synaxis closes, statement issued

With the blessing of their diocesan bishops, the superiors (or their representatives) of monastic communities within the Orthodox Church in America gathered at the Chancery here for a “Synaxis” July 21-23, 2014.

In addition to spiritual fellowship and mutual upbuilding and encouragement, common concerns and the emerging nature of North American monasticism were discussed.

The first-ever Small Parish Forum was at Christ the Savior Church here July 10-12, 2014. It was co-hosted by the Diocese of the Midwest and the Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.

Geared to parishes with 50 members or less, the forum featured speakers who presented ideas, principles and tactics for strengthening the parish, committing to long term viability, and developing reachable goals.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, 78, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday morning, July 5, 2014 after a lengthy illness.

The members of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America are gathering for their annual retreat in Ottawa, Ontario during the last week of June 2014.

The annual retreat provides the hierarchs with an opportunity to gather in prayer and reflection.

This weekend the church of All Saints in Meadow Lake, SK was blessed by a visit from His Grace Bishop Irénée for the celebration of the parish feast day. It was Vladyka's first visit to the somewhat remote region and he was received with great joy and warmth by the faithful of the town and surrounding area.
