This past week, our parish of St. Herman’s in Edmonton, was especially blessed to not only be celebrating our annual Patronal Feast Day, but to also have His Eminence Archbishop Irenee join us on this festive occasion.

On Sunday, October 16, the Sts Peter and Paul Sobor (Montréal, QC) welcomed «The Sign» (Kursk Root / Kurskaya-Korennaya) Icon of the Mother of God.

The visit was blessed by Archpriest George Lagodich, serving at St Nicholas Cathedral (ROCOR, Montréal). The Icon stayed there from October 15th till October 16th.

The Clergy of Sts Peter and Paul Sobor and the faithful served an Akathist in front of the Icon and venerated it.

On her way the Icon was accompanied by Igumen Nikolai Perekrestov (St Nicholas Cathedral).

On September 11, the parish of St Nicholas Orthodox Church in Narol, MB and the Mission Station of Christ the Saviour in Winkler, MB came together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the ordination to the Priesthood of Archpriest Gregory Scratch.

On Sunday, September 25th, 2022, we were blessed to have His Eminence Archbishop Irénée visit the parish in honour of our feast day and our 20th anniversary.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were Fr Kyle Parrott, Fr Evgeny Prokhin of St Alexander Nevsky Mission, and Protodeacon Jesse Isaac of St Herman of Alaska in Edmonton.

Following liturgy, we had a reception in the hall. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this lovely morning possible. Eis polla eti Despota!

On September 8, 2022 His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon sent a letter of condolence to His Majesty King Charles III on the occasion of the repose of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning British monarch and the head of state of the United Kingdom, Canada, and many Commonwealth countries around the world. 

The text of the letter reads as follows:

Your Majesty: 

I write to express my condolences on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

With faith in Christ and hope in the resurrection, we share news of the falling asleep of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman (Swaiko), retired primate of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). His Beatitude reposed on September 6, 2022, at the age of 90.

Glory to God! The construction of a new church building for St Herman's in Langley, BC is well underway.

As seen in the recent contruction photograph, the current progress is as follows:

  • Foundation has been poured
  • Foundation has been insulated
  • Underground plumbing has been installed
  • Bottom half of framing has been installed
  • Steel Templates for Steel Risers have been poured
  • Steel is currently in shop drawing approval stage
  • Cupolas are being formed by fiberglass company

On the Dormition of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos the Holy Resurrection Sobor in Vancouver celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Fr. Michael Fourik’s ordination to the Priesthood.

Fr. Michael was appointed as rector of Holy Resurrection in October 1999. In 2003, in recognition of his devoted service, Father Michael was elevated to the dignity of Archpriest. In 2007 he was assigned the Dean of British Columbia and Yukon. In May 2011 Archpriest Michael Fourik was awarded the right to wear the Mitre.

The faithful of Holy Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Orthodox Church gathered on August 28th to celebrate 120 years of services at the rural parish, north east of Yorkton. The rain held off and a beautiful liturgy was held with his Eminence, Archbishop Irenee. After the liturgy and grave blessing the faithful gathered for the traditional sumptuous potluck. The few elderly remaining parishioners pray that they may continue the tradition of services at this little country parish.
