Many of you are wondering how we can provide support for Ukrainian Refugees.

In short for those of you who are a registered charity with Revenue Canada, We are not allowed to send money to a non Canadian organization. A parish cannot collect money and then forward the money outside of the country. A charity could lose their charity status if they don't follow Revenue Canada rules.

There are three ways that I see that we can contribute for support to Ukrainian refugees.

Dear beloved children in the Lord,

It is with profound pain and sorrow that we see the situation unfolding in Ukraine. The invasion of Russian troops has already caused death and destruction in many areas of the country and, as the battle progresses, the human cost continues to rise. It is heartbreaking to see the images of destroyed buildings, homes, and traffic jams as refugees flee the cities for their safety.

Dearly beloved children in the Lord,

In light of the distressing developments in Ukraine affecting millions of innocent people in the region, I wholeheartedly urge you to pray for peace and the well-being of our brothers and sisters who are enduring this tragic moment.

I ask that the hostilities be ceased immediately and that President Putin put an end to the military operations. As Orthodox Christians, we condemn violence and aggression.

A recently released documentary entitled “Goosechase” (by David Veldman, 2021 Lunenburg Doc Festival finalist) shows the inside life of the Hermitage of the Annunciation in New Germany, Nova Scotia (Archdiocese of Canada, OCA). Tucked away in the hills beside the LaHave River, the monks spend their days praying, working, and studying. This is not a story about the individual monks, but about their way of life and the monastic practice.

Two years ago Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Québec City and I were blissfully preparing to celebrate our 70th anniversary, and of course by April we were in lockdown. After the subsequent rather painful adjustment to online worship, I managed to put together a slideshow of the 70 years of our parish life. Granted there is a gap in the photos during the nearly 20 years when our parish was dormant, sometime in the 1980s regular services resumed in our parish. By the end of last year this slideshow was ready and we celebrated our 70th on Zoom.
