The ordination of a new deacon brought joy to the monastery of all Saints of North America and the congregation of the church of the Theotokos, Joy of Canada. Mircea Markel Tihon completed his seminary training in Romania and has served as reader at the monastery for some years now.

Deacon Markel was born in Moldova, one of a set of triplets. His twin sister Galina is a member of the congregation. Deacon Markel’s wife Rodica is one of the chanters who leads the congregation in singing on Sundays.

The feast of the opening of the relics of St Seraphim of Sarov (19 July Old Style / 1 August) was celebrated in Rawdon, Québec.

The feast was a success. The weather was perfect although a little too warm in the chapel with 90 people in attendance and 12 clergy serving in the altar.

Hierarchs, clergy and faithful from across the US, Canada and Mexico began arriving in Saint Louis over the weekend of July 21-22, 2018 for the 19th All-American Council [AAC] of the Orthodox Church in America. They joined hundreds of participants in the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians of America’s 92nd annual National Convention, which opened July 20.

Matushka Nadezhda (née Apouchtine) Svetlovsky, 97, wife of the late Protodeacon Peter Svetlovsky, fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

For many years the Svetlovskys, who came to the United States in the early 1950s, served Our Lady of Kazan Church, Sea Cliff, NY.  After Protodeacon Peter’s retirement they relocated to Ottawa, where they attended Annunciation Cathedral.
