Archpriest Anatoliy Melnyk accepted the appointment to the position of Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Canada

On Sunday, February 24, 2013, Protodeacon Nazari Polataiko, Secretary of the Archdiocese of Canada, The Orthodox Church in America, announced that Archpriest Anatoliy Melnyk has accepted the appointment to the position of Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Canada, The Orthodox Church in America.

A life-long member of the Orthodox Church, Father Anatoliy was born in Ukraine, in 1960. In 1986 he graduated from the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary and in 2002 from the Kyiv Theological Academy.

After his ordination to the Holy Diaconate and to the Holy Priesthood in 1986 by His Eminence, the late Archbishop Damian (Marchuk), he served in the Volynia Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Chuch. In 1999 Father Anatoliy was invited to come and serve at Holy Trinity Orthodox Sobor in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he was Priest in Charge. At the end of 2002, he was released from the Omophor of Archbishop Semion (Shostatskyj) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and received into the ranks of the clergy of The Orthodox Church in America, The Archdiocese of Canada, at the beginning of 2003.

Father Anatoliy served as Rector of Holy Trinity Orthodox Sobor in Winnipeg, MB from 2003-2005. In 2005 he was transferred to Montreal, QC and assigned as Rector of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Sobor. In October 2007 Father Anatoliy was appointed Dean of Québec and the Maritime Provinces.

He and his wife, Matushka Irina Kosich, have two children and one granddaughter. Julia is married to the priest Vasily Tsaritsyn, and they are both graduates of the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary in Russia. Their child is Emilia. Gleb is presently a student in his second year at the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary.
