Mount Athos visits the Hermitage of the Annunciation

Archimandrite Iakovos of the Monastery of Simonos Petras (Athos) visited the Hermitage of the Annunciation in New Germany, NS on Monday, November 18th, 2013.

Igumen Roman of the Hermitage and the venerable Father Iakovos discussed the importance of inculturation of monasticism for the Orthodox Church in North America, in particular, a manner suited to Canada which would be respectful of our varied Orthodox traditions, our multicultural inclusiveness as well as Western perspectives.

Father Iakovos generously shared some inspiring events from the lives of the holy monks of the sacred Mount Athos.

Several clergy and faithful enjoyed listening to the two elders talking.

Simonos Petras, at the holy invitation of Bishop Methodius of Boston (Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston), hopes to make a foundation in that diocese.
