Holy Transfiguration Hermitage in BC Spared

August 20, 2017

Further to last week's article about the evacuation of Holy Transfiguration Hermitage in Lone Butte, BC, the Elephant Hill fire which is about 10 to 15km away was at great risk to head towards the Hermitage this past weekend as very strong gusting winds were called for, going directly towards the hermitage. Therefore, Fathers Gregory and Samuel and Brother Moses left and have been away for the past week awaiting the outcome. They have been asking our prayers and especially have asked St Aidan of Lindisfarne (patron saint of firefighters and noted to have reversed a serious fire through his prayers in the 7th century) for his intercession. They would like to let everyone know that our prayers have been heard and even though the winds and weather were pretty much as predicted, the fire control line established by the more than 150 firefighters held and the fire did not grow past any of the perimeter boundaries.

They want to express their deepest gratitude to God through the prayers of St Aidan, and for all who have been praying with them, and ask for your continued prayers. They are feeling confident enough that they are returning to the Hermitage tomorrow (Tuesday August 21).
