The Orthodox Church in the Arab World
March 16, 2014

The first-ever anthology of Orthodox Christian texts from the Middle East, written during the millennium 700-1700 and translated from Arabic into English by leading scholars, has now been published.

Called "The Orthodox Church in the Arab World", the anthology is jointly edited by Samuel Noble and Father Deacon Dr. Alexander Treiger. Father Alexander is associate professor of Religious Studies at Dalhousie University and serves at the OCA parish of St Vladimir’s in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The foreword is by His Eminence Ephrem Kyriakos, Metropolitan of Tripoli, who gave his blessing to the project. The introduction to the volume provides a comprehensive history of the Orthodox Church in the Middle East.

Included are representative samples of the most important Orthodox Christian works from Arab world. Among the samples are apologetic and philosophical works, lives of saints, history, devotional poetry, mystical writings, correspondences, and travel journals. The Orthodox Church in the Arab World sheds light on the rich and profound Spirit of Orthodoxy in the Arab world.
