NS Monks Announce Establishment of Monastic Cemetery

The Monks of the Holy Annunciation Hermitage in Watford, New Germany, Nova Scotia, are announcing the establishment of the Cemetery of St John the Baptist at 172, Goose Chase Road, Watford, Nova Scotia.

During the summer of 2007, Fathers Roman, and Cassian began discussing the possibility of establishing a Monastic Cemetery. Archbishop Seraphim gave the blessing to proceed with attempts on 29 August 2007. The monks asked for the intercession of the Forerunner. In September of 2007, a suitable location was discerned on the Hermitage property. Funds were already in place by the end of that month, and on 4 December 2007 Archbishop Seraphim blessed the naming for St John the Baptist.

On 7 March, 2008 (the eve of the First, and Second findings of the Head of the Forerunner), surveying documents were finalised, and the application was delivered to the Department of the Environment.

On 24 June, 2008 the Nativity of the Forerunner, approval for the Cemetery arrived in the mail.

It is intended that the Cemetery will be blessed on 29 August, 2008, the Feast of the Beheading of the Forerunner.
