Archbishop Irénée commends Orthodox writer Frederica Mathewes-Green's suggested Dormition Fast prayer vigil to end abortion.

Green writes that occasions of joy sometimes elicit occasions of sorrow. This is so because the world is fallen, shorn from the full beauty and majesty of God. The world however, is not without hope because of the promise of the restoration of all things through the work of the Son of God, Jesus Christ the Righteous. The fallen world can be made new.

Saturday, July 13, 2019 saw the passing of Dr Edward Hartley of Surrey, B.C. Dr Hartley studied medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and after graduation moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 1964 where he began a family medical practice. He married Vivian Robertson in 1967 and together they had three children: James, and the twins Andrea and Maria. Dr. Ed was well-known as a beloved doctor who was devoted to his patients. He was also well-known as a local iconographer.

During the last week of June and first week of July 2019, His Eminence, Archbishop Irénée of Ottawa and Canada was on pilgrimage to Russia, where he visited Ekaterinburg and the Moscow region.  He was accompanied by Archpriest Daniel Andrejuk, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Russian Orthodox Church and Dean of the OCA’s Representation Church of the Great Martyr Catherine, Moscow, and Protodeacon Jesse Isaac.

On the Monday after Pentecost, His Eminence Archbishop Irénée ordained Elias Fonseca to the holy diaconate at the Sign of the Theotokos Church in Montréal.

After the Divine Liturgy on the Feast of All Saints, Fr Nicolas Svetlovsky blessed new processional banners of Christ and Theotokos for the parish of the Holy Trinity in Québec City.

The new banners were made with loving care by Olga Rusnac.

Archbishop Irénée visited Holy Trinity parish in Québec City for their patronal feast, Pentecost, on Sunday 16 June.

Concelebrating with the Archbishop were Fr Nicolas Svetlovsky, Fr Nicholas Young, Fr Nectaire Fénémias and Deacon Denis Letunovsky.

All Saints of North America parish in Hamilton, Ontario is delighted to welcome Father John Whiteford as the guest speaker at this year's Chinese Missions Dinner, on Sunday, June 23rd.

Father John Whiteford was born in Riverside, California, and lived in California, Kentucky, and in his current home of Houston, Texas since 1978. 

Father John was raised in the Church of the Nazarene, and began learning about Orthodox Christianity while studying Theology in Oklahoma, where he was baptized in 1990.

His Eminence Archbishop Irénée and members of the archdiocesan council met in Toronto on Thursday 16 May and Friday 17 May.

The meeting was hosted by Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Mission at Trinity College at the University of Toronto, where the Orthodox School of Theology is also based.

On Friday afternoon, faculty and students of the school of theology provided an overview of the graduate theological and pastoral training programmes available.
