On Thursday, December 31, 2020, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America has issued an encyclical entitled, “We Rejoice Even in Tribulation”: An Encyclical of Hope. The Holy Synod offers this work out of love and gratitude to its faithful at the end of this year. The Synod also intends for the encyclical to be seen as an encouragement for the year to come.

A wife and a mother to three and a matushka for everyone, Matushka Laura Isakov suddenly passed away at the age of 42, on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at a clinic in Fraser Lake, British Columbia.

Matushka Laura was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 21, 1978. After spending two years in Georgia, her family lived in various parts of Minnesota and Iowa. Matushka Laura graduated from Irondale High School in New Brighton, Minnesota, in 1996, and went on to the University of Minnesota where she studied electrical engineering.

On Monday morning, October 19, 2020, His Beatitude Metropolitan Theodosius (Lazor), former Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All-America and Canada, fell asleep in the Lord in Canonsburg, PA after an extended illness. He was the Primate of the Orthodox Church in America from 1977 until his retirement in 2002.

What do you do when your church is over 100 years old and is a small rural church and you want to have your annual Prazdnik on the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos? With the Covid-19 restrictions, you can only hold 6 to 8 people inside, way more than those who would be attending. Well, you trust God and move the service outside and continue the tradition. The ones who founded the church would have done the same without any hesitation.
