His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Sobor of St. Herman of Alaska in Edmonton, AB, on Sunday, December 11, 2011.
Concelebrating with His Beatitude were His Grace Irénée, Bishop of Quebec, Administrator of the Archdiocese of Canada; Archimandrite Alexander (Pihach), Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Canada, Dean of Alberta and Rector of the Sobor of St. Herman of Alaska; Archpriest Phillip Eriksson, Rector of the Church of the Holy Martyr Peter the Aleut in Calgary, AB; Priest Philip Haliwell (a priest of the Archdiocese of Canada presently studying at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA); Protodeacon Nazari Polataiko, Secretary of the Archdiocese of Canada; Deacon Daniel Friesen, First Deacon of the Sobor of St. Herman of Alaska, and Deacon Matthew Francis.
During the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Jonah ordained Deacon Matthew Francis to the Holy Priesthood and His Grace, Bishop Irénée ordained Subdeacon Jesse Isaac to the Holy Diaconate. After the dismissal, the Award of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and Apostle to America, was conferred upon Edward and Virginia Byfield and Lillian Trefan. His Grace thanked them for their life-long example of love for our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and their unending support of missionary work for the sake of Christ. Gregory (Reader and choir director) and Lydia Fedor were awarded with a Bronze Gramota for their witness of Christian love and service that they have consistently shown during all their years as founding members of the Sobor of St. Herman of Alaska in Edmonton, AB.
The celebrations concluded with the parish singing the "Many Years" to His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, to His Grace Irénée, to the newly ordained Priest Matthew Francis, to Deacon Jesse Isaac and to all Orthodox Christians.
